Depolymerization of Waste Plastics Start-Up Project

Spruceworks uncovered much higher than expected upside potential, resulting in a mutually beneficial partnership.
Does a joint development initiative with an international oil company make sense from an environmental, feasibility and economic standpoint?
Our Approach
Spruceworks assumed a consulting engagement to analyze a proposed joint development initiative between a start-up focused on depolymerizing waste plastics and an international oil company.
Considering this partnership’s opportunities, we decided to focus on two main areas. The first was to ensure the availability of waste plastic feedstocks in suitable quantities, quality, and pricing. Secondly, we needed to ensure there was a market for the commercial viability of high-quality recycled products.
We conducted an in-depth techno-economic feasibility analysis and provided insight into the supply chain, facility needs, and ROI for future investors.
Results
Through our work, we defined and presented a compelling investment opportunity for a first-of-its-kind commercial conversion facility with the potential that it would scale and profitably deploy additional units across the US.
The analysis provided by Spruceworks identified a novel process modification that improved the recyclability of waste plastics and cut greenhouse gas emissions, and also made it possible to scale profitably.
